Bill Colagrande was born in Orange, NJ on May 3, 1947. He graduated Seton Hall University in 1969 with a BA in Psychology, and the following year completed a Master’s degree in Counseling from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

After holding positions as an academic advisor, a counselor and Deputy Director of a juvenile justice diversion program, Bill worked as a Family Counselor in a school for emotionally disturbed children. He taught as an adjunct professor in the Psychology Departments of Seton Hall University, Miami University, Jersey City State College and Essex County Community College. In 1978, Bill went to live and run psychotherapy groups in Sweden for two years. Upon his return to the U.S. he worked for three years in a private drug treatment center in Manhattan before entering private practice on Manhattan's upper West Side. In 1993 Bill placed his clinical work on the back burner while first recruiting alternative healthcare providers for a Kingston-based HMO and then doing sales/marketing for a local manufacturer. In 2003 he decided to return to his career roots and revitalize the Institute for Human Development in Kingston, NY.

Bill, a licensed mental health counselor in New York, is a member of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society for Psychology, a NY State Certified Mediator, a Certified Family Group Conference Facilitator and a Pathwork Helper. Bill has written a regular mental health column for the Kingston Times, which in turn lead him to develop the Stanford Community Mental Health Initiative, comprised of a series of mental health-related articles designed to assist individuals and groups in their personal growth and development. He also hosts a weekly call-in mental health/baseball talk show, Ya gotta Have Heart for Kingston Public Access Television, Tuesday evenings at 6:30PM on channel 23.

A member of Rotary, Bill is an avid fisherman and a licensed fishing guide in the state of New York. He lives in Phoenicia with his lovely wife Margit.
